Category Archives: The Newsletter

This is the new venue where members and potential members of the Ipswich Outdoor Group can read about recent events, share news that is relevant to group interests but not appropriate for group emails, write about group initiatives – anything from charity fund-raising to activism aimed at keeping our footpaths open – present opinion editorials on issues close to their hearts, post classified ads, cartoons, pictures or anything else that occurs. Unlike the old Newsletter, it will be updated as and when new material comes to hand and, as this is a work in progress, it will be formatted as we go along and get an idea of what is required. Feel free to offer suggestions if any occur to you.

For the moment, content is divided into three categories: reports of past doings; announcements about upcoming events or issues of note, whether IOG instigated or particularly related to IOG interests; and classifieds, where you can advertise items for sale, for rent, or wanted. Follow the links to the right to filter.

Please send all contributions to Marie-Louise Karttunen for prompt posting.

The IOG monthly social meeting will be  tonight (Monday 13th April). It’ll start at 8.00pm in the upstairs lounge of The Thomas Wolsey pub. See the monthly social meeting page for more details and a map.

Printed copies of the shiny new programme for April, May and June should be available so there’ll be plenty to talk about.

Prospective new members are welcome to come along, ask questions and find out more about the IOG.

Hope to see you there!

March Social Meeting

The March social meeting will take place a week today on Monday 9th March. We’ll be looking at the programme of events for the coming month and forthcoming trips. There’ll also be time to ask questions and socialise over a few pints.

Hope to see you there!

February Film Night

This month’s film night is on Friday 27th February.

This film will be “Selma”, starring David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo and Tom Wilkinson. The film depicts the story of Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic struggle to secure voting rights for all people – a dangerous and terrifying campaign that culminated with the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The film is scheduled to start at 8.30 pm so meet in the foyer of the Ipswich Film Theatre in the Corn Exchange at around 8.10 pm. You can book online on the IFT website or buy tickets on the night.

There’s the option of going for a drink afterwards in Arlington’s Brasserie on Museum Street.  New and prospective members are very welcome to come along.

See the  programme for more details and to contact Angela Bell (the film night organiser).

Matthew’s taking a well-earned break, so Andy will be chairing the meeting this month as we look through the upcoming events. And, of course, there’ll be time for socialising afterwards.

Hope to see you there!

January Film Night

The first film night of 2015 is next Friday – 30th January.

This month’s film is  “Testament of Youth”, starring Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington and Dominic West: “Vera Brittain’s beloved WWI memoir is exquisitely realised in this moving and timely adaptation. Intelligent and free-spirited Vera wins a scholarship to Oxford and plunges into an intoxicating romance. Blooming, in love and on the cusp of fulfilling her ambitions, her dreams are brutally shattered by the onset of war.”

The film is scheduled to start at 8.30 pm so meet in the foyer of the Ipswich Film Theatre in the Corn Exchange at around 8.10 pm. You can book online on the IFT website or buy tickets on the night.

Hope to see you there!

December Social Meeting

The date for the festive December social meeting will be Monday 8th December.

The remaining programme for December will be discussed. There’ll plenty of time to ask questions about future events or the IOG in general and to socialise as well!

Our new programme manager, Lou, is also looking for events for January, February and March 2015, so come along and discuss your ideas for events you’d like to do (or lead!) next year.

As usual, it’ll start at 8.00pm in the upstairs lounge of The Thomas Wolsey pub. See the monthly social meeting page for more details and a map.

I can’t guarantee that Santa will make an appearance at the festive December social meeting, but he has joined us on a walk before so you never know!
