On a dark January evening, over 100 people created a golden glow at a party at Venue 77 in Ipswich to kick off the celebrations for the IOGβs 50th anniversary. The conversation, laughter, fabulous golden outfits, enthusiasm, great music choices, dancing skills and energy gave the group a wonderful start to the year.

The group started back in 1976 as a Youth Hostel Association local group. The activities have varied over the years and the original name was changed to the Ipswich Outdoor Group in 2000, but the core purpose has remained the same β people getting together, having fun and enjoying life.

The golden anniversary party was no exception. The (mostly) outdoor/gold/1970s themed playlist chosen by the members for the party was a huge success with people dancing and singing all evening. A pdf of the playlist is available here.

Like all IOG events, the anniversary party was organised by members. In this case, it was the sub-committee for the 50th anniversary celebrations (better known as the Ministry of Bunting) with extra help from volunteers. Special thanks to Sarah G. for the beautiful IOG bunting.

This great evening was just the start β more anniversary events are planned, so keep watching the programme! 🎉
