Parkrun: Saturday 2nd March

Prior to choosing Alton Water reservoir as our location for this Parkrun, there was some debate about the level of mud and rain to be expected. Four IOGers braved the rather muddy and slippery conditions and joined the 25 runners who completed the 5 k course. The course was well marked with cones, and there were friendly marshals at junctions to ensure everybody followed the course, which led past a field with grazing and seemingly peaceful long-horned Highland cows.

Our group then ran or walked through a stretch of scenic woodland and along a section by the water. There were undulations, offering great views of the reservoir. A particular challenge proved to be the ‘Puddle of Doom’ near the finish line. I struggled to get through this longish stretch, which was particularly wet and muddy under foot, but came out the other end with surprisingly dry feet. Our group then warmed up in the nearby cafe. It was a great running experience with a bit of a challenge.
