Easter in Eskdale: Sunday 31st March

Pics contributed by Anni, Paul, Simon, Kate and Barry.

Another lovely day dawned in the Lake District and the group set out on more adventures…

Lou led a walk up through the gorge carved by Birker Beck, heading across bridges, past waterfalls…
…and across Birker Fell to Devoke Water in the sunshine.
A large group decided to let the train take the strain for part of the day.
We took the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway from Dalegarth to Ravenglass…
…and then we walked back again.
The route was relatively flat (certainly compared to Sca Fell the day before)…
…so some people decided to make it harder by walking up and over Muncaster Fell.
They found a trig point up on the fell.
There were a few people who took the train back up the valley as well. Apparently they were in third class on the return journey because they didn’t get a roof!

The activities were generally less strenuous than the day before but the relaxed walks allowed plenty of time (and breath) for chatting and laughing, making it a very sociable day that everyone enjoyed. And we still had one more full day of the trip to go…

Choo choo!
