Trigger warning: This post contains pictures of a staged road traffic collision and injuries.
Seven IOG members and a couple of non-IOG members attended Ralda Roger’s outdoor first aid course on this weekend. The course covered all of the essentials for maintaining life, including resuscitation of adults, children and babies, use of a defib machine, and bandaging of everything from a small cut to a major arterial bleed.

As always with Ralda’s courses, there was a large amount of practical role playing involved. At times, we donned our outdoor gear and took turns at being the casualty or the first aider. No Oscars were awarded for the pretty ropey ‘ham’ acting!

The weekend culminated in a road traffic collision caused by a drunk driver and involving two vehicles and multiple casualties. Thankfully, no persons were injured during this event; merely a few dummies!

All in all, it was a great weekend with some important life skills thrown in. If other IOG members fancy participating in the next course, it is heavily subsidised by the IOG and I can definitely recommend the assortment of chocolate biscuits Ralda always supplies!
