Glen’s Stonham Walk – Sunday 30th January

On a sunny but chilly Sunday morning 14 intrepid IOGers led by Glen Richards set off from David Bird’s house at Creeting Bottoms heading north along the A140.  David, who was leading at this point, was instructed to take the first footpath on the left. As per usual, he ploughed his own furrow and headed for the second!

A swift recall got us all back on the correct path and we headed towards Earl Stonham where from the impressive church we heard the melodious sound of bell ringing. We then bypassed a rather surprising (for Suffolk) Ichiban, Sushi factory. Apparently Ichiban means number 1 in Japanese. We then headed towards the hamlet of Broad Green, making our way through Forward Green with its thatched cottages and village green. Out into the countryside again and downwards to Stonham Parva via its recreation ground where we had a lunch stop. Some of the group decided to try out the swings…..

The group then made its way past the abandoned allotments towards and around the Magpie Pub on the A140.  It was then back to Mill Cottage where David supplied the group with tea, coffee and several misshapen biscuits! Many thanks to Glen for leading a great walk.
