Many thanks to the 33 members who attended the IOG’s 2024 AGM. A brilliant attendance on a rainy evening.
As well as the formal and official business of the meeting (re-election of committee, Treasurer’s report, votes on membership fees and charitable contributions, etc.), the Chair’s report highlighted the range and extent of the group’s activities over the last year:
- 66 Scheduled daytime weekend walks, including 2 “Stride and Guide” strolls
- 11 Friday evening ambles
- 52 (!) Wednesday walks
- 4 Volunteering events
- 3 Camping weekends
- Regular midweek cycling and running opportunities
- Weekend cycling events
- Saturday Parkrun and Parkwalk options, expanded to multiple venues
- Swimming, indoor climbing, folk/jazz nights and barn dances
- Monthly Monday meetings
- Monthly Friday pub socials
- 2 Member-hosted barbecues
- A Christmas quiz
- 2 First aid courses
- 4 Residential trips to Eskdale, Edale, Teesdale and the North Yorkshire Moors
- 2 Backpacking trips in the Peak and Lake Districts
- Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Special thanks to trip organisers Sarah, Glen and Phil; camping organisers Lou and Anneliese; backpacking leaders Kate and Rachael; and all of their respective booking buddy supporters, as well as the walk and cycling leaders and the hosts, organisers and support teams for all the other events.
In total, 21 individuals arranged or led events over the last year, a mixture of group stalwarts and some members who only joined us in recent years. Sarah and Lou both led their 100th group walks.
Having said that, new event leaders and organisers are always welcome. Whether it’s for an outdoor event, trip away or just a social event, don’t be shy in coming forward – Help us to thrive in ’25!
