Hintlesham and Burstall Walk: Saturday 15th February

Fourteen of us enjoyed a chilly walk starting from the outskirts of Ipswich.

Our route took us from Pinewood (near Copdock roundabout) past Belstead Church and on to Hintlesham. The paths were occasionally muddy but it was not as freezing cold as the weather forecast had threatened. The churchyard at Hintlesham provided welcome shelter for lunch.

In the afternoon, we carried on through Burstall. We spotted a barn with a variety of cows – black, black and white, brown, and long-horned Highland cattle. Marie told us that farmers sometimes buy an assortment. I had visions of a giant pick ‘n’ mix, like in Woolworths, but with cows instead of sweets.

We enjoyed a brief drink stop on the benches in Sproughton, wondering when the Wild Man pub would re-open.

Newbie got a stone stuck in his paw. Johnny went into super-vet mode and he was soon fixed.

A few us enjoyed post-walk drinks in the Chestnut Tree Farm pub. GPS trackers were checked and the final distance agreed upon – 11.9 miles.

Thanks to everyone for another fun day.
