IOG Committee role – Newsletter Editor

Requirements

  • Internet, email, Facebook and, ideally, WhatsApp access
  • Useful editor skills – be able to proofread and have a good grasp of English language, spelling and grammar
  • An encouraging, cajoling attitude to sweet talk members into providing material for newsletter contributions
  • A good appreciation of data protection legislation, incl. GDPR & DPA
  • Skills in adding content to a WordPress blog, or the willingness to learn

Role Description

  • Maintain the IOG online newsletter section of the IOG WordPress website
    – co-ordinate and collate members’ event reports sent in directly by email to the newsletter@ipswichoutdoor.org email address and also by monitoring the IOG mailing list and social media for any other useful photos and video that can be used in a report. Combine submissions from multiple sources to make a complete and compelling event round-up
    – promote and encourage members to submit content – both words, pictures, maps, video or anything else to keep the newsletter regularly updated, to promote the group and show that it is healthy and thriving to potential new members, as well as provide content for existing members to keep up with events and trips
  • Maintain:
    – a list of people who do not wish to feature in any of the group’s publicity materials
    – a historical archive (digital and paper) of IOG Newsletter documents, as publicly published
  • Attend as many IOG committee meetings as possible through the year, and represent members interests on the committee. Whilst on the committee, lead by example and encourage a positive, healthy group dynamic. Call out and/or report back any inappropriate behaviour on IOG events
  • Arrange and lead a handover meeting with the successor, when stepping down from the role
