John’s Kelvedon Walk – Saturday 19th August

Text and pics contributed by Claire V.

Not quite sure why I was the only one on John’s walk from Kelvedon to Coggleshall and back.

This nine-mile walk was beautiful. We walked through fields growing a variety of fruits for Tiptree and then alongside the River Blackwater. Once in Coggleshall we were surrounded by lovely Tudor Buildings.

We visited its big parish church and of course the medieval pub next to this – The Woolpack Inn.

Lunch was in the gardens of the National Trust-owned Paycocke’s House (Thomas Paycocke). Returning to Kelvedon we walked via the Medieval Grange Barn (also owned by the National Trust) and more beautiful fruit tree fields, plus making our way across some kind of quarry/nature reserve area.

Thank you so much John for all your effort. I will be returning to this beautiful area.
