How to join Ipswich Outdoor Group

Prospective members may try out three local Group events before joining. Overnight trips are strictly limited to members-only. Note: the Group’s liability insurance is NOT a replacement for personal insurance which individual members are responsible for arranging when travelling with the Group. Confirmation of personal travel insurance for all attendees is required for overseas Group travel.

How much does membership cost?

Membership costs £10 per year.

There is a reduced rate membership of £5 for students, the unemployed or for people who are ‘non-local’. We define ‘non-local’ as anyone whose home postcode does NOT begin with IP (Ipswich), NR (Norwich), CO (Colchester), CB (Cambridge) or CM (Chelmsford).

The Group’s membership year runs from 1st July to 30th June. If you join before 1st January, your membership will be due for renewal on 30th June. To encourage new members, anyone joining the Group for the first time between 1st January and 30th June will have their membership extended so it will be due for renewal on 30th June the year after.

There are 3 ways to join the group

See below. Whichever method you choose, the Membership Secretary (membership@ipswichoutdoor.org) will email you to confirm when your membership has been processed. Please remember that we are all volunteers and it may take a few days for us to contact you.

1. Complete the online form and pay your membership fee by bank transfer

Complete the online Membership Form below and select the pay by bank transfer option. When we receive your completed membership form the Membership Secretary will email you the group’s bank details so you can make the payment. Please include your name in the reference for the bank transfer.

2. Complete the online form and pay your membership fee with a cheque or cash

Complete the online Membership Form below and select the option for pay by cheque or cash.

If paying by cheque you can post it to – IOG Membership Secretary, Rachael Norris, 2 Brettenham Road, Hitcham, IPSWICH, Suffolk IP7 7NT. Please make your cheque payable to Ipswich Outdoor Group.

If paying cash the Membership Secretary, Treasurer and Chair can take your payment. Ask for them when you attend an event or come to our monthly social at the Thomas Wolsey pub. Please complete and submit your membership form BEFORE paying any cash.

Print it out, fill it in and post it with your cheque (payable to Ipswich Outdoor Group) to IOG Membership Secretary, Rachael Norris, 2 Brettenham Road, Hitcham, IPSWICH, Suffolk IP7 7NT.

You can also bring your completed paper membership form to our monthly social at the Thomas Wolsey pub and hand it with your payment (a cheque made payable to Ipswich Outdoor Group or cash) to the Membership Secretary, Treasurer or Chair. We also have paper copies of the form available at the monthly social for you to complete there.

Ipswich Outdoor Group email list
The IOG uses an email list to publicise events and circulate announcements. Group members also post details of their events so if you opt-out you will not receive updates unless you contact the organiser directly – the online programme contains only basic information about upcoming events. If you don’t ask to be added to the mailing list this information will not be sent directly to you. IOG members can email the Membership Secretary – membership@ipswichoutdoor.org – at any time to update an email address.

If you are not added to the email list you will not be informed about forthcoming IOG events.

Ipswich Outdoor Group key tags
Registered members can collect a personalised IOG membership key tag from September of each year. This can be used to claim discounts at a variety of outdoor equipment retailers – more details here www.ipswichoutdoor.org/membership-benefits.

Optional questions

The following questions are optional, but if you do answer them they provide us with useful information which helps us to run the group.

Do you have any relevant formal qualifications or training/expertise?
(First Aid, Cycling, Kayaking, Mountaineering, Climbing, Running, Coaching, Youth Leadership, Scouting, Swimming, Diving, Sailing, Martial Arts, Sports Physio etc.)

Ipswich Outdoor Group regularly posts pictures from our events onto our Facebook page, on our website and we also use them in our printed programme. This helps to publicise the group and encourage new members to join. If you DO NOT WANT TO BE SHOWN IN ANY PHOTOGRAPHS please inform the event leader before the event.

Ipswich Outdoor Group accepts no responsibility for pictures taken by any of our members that are posted to their personal social media accounts.

Please remember that Ipswich Outdoor Group is run by volunteers and it may take a few day to process your membership. Your patience is appreciated.

Data protection

Ipswich Outdoor Group will hold and process members information as per the privacy policy published and periodically updated online: www.ipswichoutdoor.org/privacy-policy/. Members’ contact and emergency contact details are available to committee members and may be shared with other event organisers, in an emergency.
