Teesdale Trip: Friday 13th September

Walk text contributed by Clare; pics by Kate, Michelle, Ian, Glen, Miriam, Clare and Jean.

The sun was shining on Friday as the group split up again for different activities.

Michelle and Mike took a lovely walk along the river.
Heather and Ian explored the Hamsterley Forest on two wheels.
A group of 12 parked at Langdon Beck for a beautiful 8-mile circular walk led by Paul. Starting out along the quiet road for a short way, we then walked beside Harwood Beck before crossing over fields…
…and joining the Pennine Way along the River Tees. The going was rougher here owing to the varying sizes and shapes of the boulders that we had to pick our way across.
After lunch, we arrived at the thunderous and impressive falls of Cauldron Snout.
We then ascended the tricky rocks beside the waterfall…
…and it’s fair to say that this set many hearts racing and legs trembling. However, once this difficult section was over, many said that they found this part the most enjoyable (with one even wanting to do it again).
We ascended further on better ground to Cow Green Reservoir and were rewarded with a view of Cross Fell (the highest hill in the Pennines). There was then just a lazy downward walk along the road back to the start and some suitable refreshments in the Langdon Beck Hotel.
Glen organised a quiz/games night for us back at the accommodation in the evening to round off another good day.
