Five of us ventured to Beccles by car or train on a rather windy day for a 7-mile circular walk lead by Angela.
Starting out on the Angles Way, we followed the River Waveney for a muddy few miles before turning away towards Geldeston, lured by the promise of refreshments in a community-owned pub called The Locks Inn.
We dubiously negotiated a long pot-holed dirt track and were passed by only 2 cars so we weren’t expecting too much. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find a renovated and well-stocked pub.
We were even more surprised by the number of people there – many had arrived by boat with a ferry service from Beccles to help with transport.
Once replenished, we were dragged away by Angela for the return walk to Beccles, anticipating a tour of the town. Instead, we were lured by a large café in the centre where afternoon tea and cakes were consumed.
Many thanks for the good company and to Angela for arranging the day out.
