Lou’s 10-mile Shrubland Park walk on Saturday 8th June was originally planned for a date in January but it had to be postponed back then because of flooding.
The floods had subsided by the rearranged date (as checked by Lisa while walking Newbie) so the group ventured out from Barham to Baylham and back, with sections near the River Gipping as well as paths climbing up on each side of the river valley.
The paths were ‘a bit overgrown’ in places…
The walk featured the site of a workhouse with an associated isolation hospital, the site of a Roman fort at the junction of five Roman roads, a tunnel under the A14, two traverses of Shrubland Park, views of Shrubland Hall (both in the distance across the valley and closer up within the park), and an old way once known as Dangerous Lane.
Many thanks to Lou for a good Saturday walk.
